Easy Jet

Lightening the Load for a Greener Future
In November and December 2023, EasyJet launched a trial to test a new, lighter paint coating as part of its sustainability strategy—and CH-Aero was proud to play a key role. With a goal to reduce aircraft fuel consumption through weight savings, EasyJet turned to CH-Aero for precise aircraft weighing to validate the impact of their innovation.Across four carefully coordinated weighing moments—two before and two after repainting—CH-Aero confirmed a 27 kg reduction per aircraft. While this may seem minor, when scaled across a fleet of 38 aircraft, the difference is substantial: thousands of liters of fuel saved each year and a measurable reduction in CO₂ emissions. The tests were observed closely by a full delegation from EasyJet, highlighting the importance of this trial. The results validated EasyJet’s calculations and offered strong proof that small technical adjustments can drive major progress in environmental impact and cost efficiency.
Our Approach
EasyJet needed precise, unbiased verification of the new coating's effectiveness—this meant absolute accuracy in the weight and balance process. CH-Aero’s role was to deliver fast, repeatable, and certified weighing results, using our AW5-2 aircraft weighing platforms. We conducted the weighing at EasyJet’s facilities under controlled conditions, ensuring consistent aircraft preparation and repeatable measurement between the pre- and post-painting phases. Our specialists worked closely with EasyJet’s engineering and sustainability teams to ensure every step of the process met their internal expectations and regulatory guidelines.Beyond technical execution, our presence and flexibility allowed the airline to carry out its innovation program without delay, supported by real-time data and trusted results.
The Outcome
The confirmed weight reduction of 27 kg per aircraft means significant fuel and emission savings when multiplied across a fleet. With 38 aircraft in the trial scope, EasyJet’s engineers estimate thousands of liters of kerosene saved annually—directly supporting the airline’s CO₂ reduction targets.CH-Aero’s involvement delivered more than just numbers—it offered EasyJet the validation and confidence needed to move forward with their sustainability goals. The trial showed how weight data and operational innovation can work hand-in-hand to create smarter, cleaner aviation.
